House at Supeluse Street

The beachfront area of Pärnu is known for its very different architecture – white functionalism mixed with the heritage of the Soviet era, century-old wooden houses, and modern villas. With the new house on Auli street, the rhythm of the calm street front of the spa town has been shaken, the “frequency” of the facade distribution of the traditional wooden house has been turned to the maximum. The result is an extremely tight rhythm of openings – the traditional play of forms has passed through the filter of the modern fast pace of life.

During the construction of the new residential building, the old and tired, low-value outbuildings standing by the street were demolished, but their general form has been carried forward to the present day through the volumes of the new building. The front facade of the residence faces the yard – a door opens there as well as a shelter for cars and bicycles.

The ribbed solution accommodates three functions – living spaces, a terrace, and the car shelter. The interior rooms in light colors shine through the windows along the black-tarred wall surface. There is an exciting contrast between dark and light. Although the building is finished with wood and wood has been used a lot in the interior, the load-bearing structures are made of concrete and steel(?).

On the first floor, there are living rooms with a daily function (living room, kitchen, hallway, Office) and utility rooms. On the second floor, there are bedrooms and a bathroom. The ribbed form of the house also accommodates a terrace with space for a small herb or vegetable garden.
